State And Federal Needs Assessment 2006

Goal

Provide an analysis to members detailing opportunities and challenges facing the dissemination of hands-on science materials into school districts across the nation

Activities

The full report, available to members only, focuses on:
  • Competitive trends and analysis
  • Obstacles to selling hands-on materials into school districts
  • Opportunities: bills, appropriations
  • Adoption and "open territory" states
  • Negotiating positions from perspective of a district decision maker
  • Corporations invested in science education and their role

Advocacy

Goal

Build a presence by leveraging and cultivating federal and state contacts, educating them about HOSP and hands-on science education

Activities

  • Conduct preliminary information and outreach meeting with STEM Caucus and others on Capitol Hill

Strategic Alliances

Goal

Begin cultivating and building strategic alliances with similar and credible organizations which are also invested in hands-on science education

Activities

  • NSTA - National Science Teachers Association - explore opportunities
  • ASMC - Association of Science Material Centers - discuss long range partnership
  • NASMC - National Association of Science and Math Coalitions - discuss partnership to leverage its funding from the Department of Education and NASA to form 50 state coalitions across the US to support better science and math in public and private schools

Membership

Goal

Increase membership to provide HOSP members with the greatest leverage in the marketplace over the next year
